Accessibility
We build Cards51 for people who want to play classic games comfortably — including people who use large text, a magnifier, a keyboard or a screen reader. Here is what that means in practice and how to tell us when something does not work.
What we do
- Large cards. Cards use oversized corner numbers. Choose S, M, L or XL in Settings.
- High contrast. Body text is dark on light paper. A High contrast theme and an Evening theme are in Settings.
- Four-color deck. Diamonds can be blue and clubs green, so suits are never told apart by color alone.
- No timers. No move is ever timed. The computer waits for you.
- Unlimited undo. Take back any move against the computer.
- Big buttons with words. Every button is at least 48 pixels tall and labeled in words, not only icons.
- Tap, then tap. No dragging is needed. Tap a card, then tap where it goes.
- Screen readers. Cards are announced by name (“Seven of hearts”), and game messages are read out as they appear.
- Less motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations are turned down.
How we check
Every change to the site runs automated accessibility checks (axe-core) on phone and desktop sizes, and we test on small phones with enlarged system text. Our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. [DRAFT – needs review] Replace “goal” with a conformance statement only after a manual audit.
Known limitations
- Some games are still being built; each one is checked before it goes live.
- Printable score sheets are designed for paper. If you need a sheet in another format, ask us.
Tell us what is not working
If anything is hard to read, hard to tap, or does not work with your assistive technology, please let us know on the contact page. Tell us the page, your device and what happened — we read every message.
