How to play canasta in 60 seconds
- Two decks with four jokers. With two players each gets 15 cards; with four, 11 cards and you play with the partner opposite.
- On your turn draw from the stock (two cards with two players) or take the discard pile, meld, then discard one card.
- A meld is three or more cards of one rank. Twos and jokers are wild, but every meld needs at least two natural cards.
- Your first meld must reach a minimum: 50 points at the start. Seven cards make a canasta: 500 if natural, 300 if mixed.
- Go out once your side has the canastas it needs. Melded cards count for you, cards left in your hand count against you. First to 5,000 wins.
Questions people ask
Is this canasta game free?
Yes. No sign-up, no downloads, no timers. Your game is saved on this device, so you can come back to it tomorrow.
Can I play with a partner?
Yes. In Settings choose 4 players: you and a computer partner against two computer opponents. Your partner's melds are your side's melds.
Why can't I take the discard pile?
The game tells you in words. Usually the pile is frozen: there is a wild card in it, or your side has not melded yet. Then you need two natural cards matching the top card.
How does the first meld minimum work?
Your side's first meld must add up to at least 50 points (15 with a negative score, 90 from 1,500, 120 from 3,000). Set your melds aside one by one; the game shows how many points you have until Lay down is ready.
Can I take back a move?
Yes. Undo has no limit in a game against the computer. Hint suggests a move and says why.
