How to play pinochle in 60 seconds
- The pinochle deck has 48 cards: two each of 9, 10, J, Q, K and A in every suit. High to low: A, 10, K, Q, J, 9.
- Four players in two teams bid for the right to name trump. The lowest bid is 250, then steps of 10.
- The bid winner names trump and swaps 4 cards with their partner. Then everyone shows their meld: a marriage (K+Q) is 20, a pinochle (J♦+Q♠) is 40, a run in trump is 150.
- Play 12 tricks. Follow suit; if you can't, trump; and always beat the winning card if you can. Aces, tens and kings count 10 each, plus 10 for the last trick.
- Make your bid and you score meld plus counters; miss it and you lose the bid. First side to 1500 wins.
