Mexican Train — the rules on one page
- Set up. Engine double in the middle (12-12 in round 1, down to 0-0 in round 13). 2–4 players take 15 tiles each, 5–6 take 12, 7–8 take 10. The rest is the boneyard.
- Your turn. Play one tile with a matching end: on your own train, on the Mexican Train, or on any train with a marker.
- Nothing fits? Draw one tile. If it fits, play it. If not, pass and put your marker on your train.
- Markers. A marker opens your train to everyone. Play on your own train to take it off.
- Doubles. After a double, play one more tile. An uncovered double must be covered by the next player before anything else. Can't? Draw; still can't? Pass and put out your marker.
- End of round. Someone plays their last tile (a double is fine), or nobody can play and the boneyard is empty.
- Score. Count the spots left in your hand. Lowest total after 13 rounds wins.

Questions people ask
How do you keep score in Mexican Train?
At the end of each round every player adds up the spots on the tiles left in their hand and writes that number in the row for the round. The player who went out writes 0. Add the 13 rounds together at the end: the lowest total wins.
Why does the score sheet list doubles instead of round numbers?
Each round is named by its engine double: 12-12 for round 1, then 11-11 and so on down to 0-0 for round 13. Writing the double next to each row makes it easy to see which engine comes next.
How many players fit on the sheet?
Up to 8, which is the most a double-12 set handles. Leave unused columns blank.
What size paper does this print on?
US Letter, portrait; it also fits A4. Page 1 is the score sheet, page 2 is a large-print rules card. In the print window you can choose “Save as PDF” to keep a copy.
